The durability of our membranes, which is unique in the industry, is further proof of the quality of our products. We specify the service life of the TLW-1 as 5-8 years on average, although it is not uncommon for membranes to last 10 years or more before needing to be replaced. Until now, this quality was reserved exclusively for our industrial customers.

The performance of the TLW-2 is ensured and supported by the Core+ OS activated carbon block pre-filter, which should be replaced every 6 months, and in the Fusion model by the Core M OS activated carbon block post-filter with integrated hollow fiber membrane, which must be replaced once a year. In the Luna and Illumina models, the membrane is protected by patented ultra-fine filters directly at the water outlets of the systems. These must also be replaced every 6 months. Those who regularly observe the recommended replacement intervals will enjoy a very long service life of over 8 years.

There are two parameters for this that you can easily measure yourself. The first value, which reflects the performance of the membrane, is the conductivity. This can be determined using a conductivity meter or, as with our large Infinity system, read on the display. This should always be at least 90% lower than the value of the source water. The second value is the filter performance in liters per minute. If this decreases significantly, it may be necessary to replace the membrane. It is also important to have an unobstructed waste water pipe, as otherwise the pollutants cannot be flushed out sufficiently and the performance of the system will decrease. Therefore, always make sure that the waste water hose is not kinked or that the siphon is not blocked, as this will prevent the waste water from being discharged.

Can TLW filters also remove microplastics?
Microplastics enter our water in many ways – for example from car tyres into groundwater, from clothing in the washing machine, shower gel or cosmetic products. Microplastic particles can range in size from under five millimetres down to a few micrometres. They are often too small for wastewater treatment plants. The TLW Core filter cartridge filters microplastics down to a size of 0.45 µm (micrometres).
Do TLW filters also remove medication residues and pesticides?
Yes – this is confirmed by numerous expert reports, among other things. They show that TLW filters can remove medication residues and polar pesticides from your water. If you would like to know more, you can find out more about the topic here.
Does my TLW water filter also remove glyphosate from my drinking water?
Yes, of course. Glyphosate is considered the best-selling weed killer in the world. It is a “total herbicide” and kills every plant that has not been genetically modified. Thanks to its patented activated carbon technology, the TLW filter can remove glyphosate from our water.
Does The Local Water use chemicals or silver for filtering?
No. The Local Water does not use any chemicals or silver elements at all. The Local Water filters in the microfiltration range, so chemicals for disinfection are not necessary.
Do activated carbon block filters also remove nitrate?
When it comes to nitrate, the picture is more nuanced. What matters is the form in which the nitrate is present in the water. Depending on how it is bound, the reduction can vary greatly – from barely measurable to considerably higher values. These fluctuations are inherent to the system and apply to all filter technologies. Anyone who wants to reduce nitrate in a targeted and reliable way generally needs a high-quality reverse osmosis system. Even these often achieve a reduction of only around 90 %, with the exception of special industrial systems.

How do I change my filter cartridge correctly?
